is this issue of the watchtower being part of the un department of public information of any significance?.
at the district conventions of jehovahs witnesses there are flags of the united states and other sovereign government such as states or other countries hanging from the buildings.
the governing body and the watchtower society rent buildings which become the equivalent of kingdom halls for the weekend.
Because there are forms that needed to fill out does not change those prior statements.
Have you read those forms? There's a lot in there that any R&F JW would have a problem with. Not to mention the fact that not only did they sign these forms, they actually kept up their end of the bargain by promoting UN ideals.
Heck if filling out a form is no big deal, then I am sure buying a political card that everyone is required to have is no big deal. Someone should have told that to all the brothers in Malawi back in the 60s/70s.

an ex-dub friend of mine and i were discussing the various ways in which the wts ( governing body) has in so many ways, been guilty of many ruined lives.
i mentioned to him something i had forgotten about......that being the policy the witnesses had in the past with regards to how a witness mate handled physical abuse by their non-believing mate who physically beat them over their religion.. i related to him how my wife and i used to take a sister with an abusive mate back and forth to meetings for quite some time.
many times she had black and blue marks on her face as well as other areas.
They have NEVER apologised for ALL the heartache, lost lives, and ruined lives, that were due to their erronious teachings.
For anyone wondering about my screen handle... this is exactly where it comes from.
Also, so far the discussion on this thread has been mostly about JW wives being abused by non-JW spouses, presumably over the religious issue. What doesn't get talked about nearly enough, either inside or outside the Org, is all the abuse committed by JW husbands in good standing in the congregation. Even if the elders are made aware of it, their typical reponse is to basically look the other way, maybe have a shepherding call on the family...
Elder1: "gee Bob, you shouldn't smack your wife around."
Bob: <looking remorseful> " I guess not..."
Elder2: "Sister Sally, you need to work on being a better wife, maybe then Bob wouldn't have to hit you."
Sally: "Ok Brother Elder, can I get either of you more coffee?"
The elders might even make poor Bob get out his Bible and read a couple of scriptures, Husband should be loving his wife as his own body, yada yada... Then they will leave, patting themselves on the back on what a fine shepherding job they have done. Of course, as soon as the elders' car is out the driveway, you know what will be happening back in the house...

i have a question i hope someone can answer for me.. my folks are sick and elderly dubs and i worry the borg will hasten their death.
they have those ridiculous blood card with an advanced directives pre-printed on them.
they also have a person from the cong designated as their surrogate?
Sorry, I too think you are totally out of line here. If your parents have made their wishes clear regarding the use of blood, you have no business interfering or trying to override their wishes. Would you want them trying to talk you out of a blood transfusion?
Of course, many older JWs have no idea about all the treatments that the Society has now said are permissable. Most of them think of it as very simple, black and white issue: no blood. In some circumstances it might almost be better to get the HLC involved, I know when my brother-in-law was resisting taking albumin, the elders were practically begging him to take it, and he finally did give in, fortunately.
But the idea of trying to force a medical procedure on someone, especially an adult, is abhorrent.

this is always a popular topic, and i just came across some startling new research on just how noah and his family were able to gather all the different kinds of animals as they were commanded to do.
it makes sense once you just think about it a bit.. .
new evidence suggests noah's sons rode flying dinosaurs .

...and considering i don't have any, it is surprising that i found the nerve to post my photo as my avatar!
i was leery to use my photo thinking someone i knew could catch on to my new apostate antics.
so, i couldn't decide what to use.
All I can say after seeing your picture...
Hello Chrissy!
More pictures please!!!
Oh yeah, welcome to the board, too...

has anyone else heard of this before ?
i thought only jw's were this stupid.
with this church, they cannot accept "a strangers blood..." .
Very odd and sad. But this quote is interesting:
Robert Rosetti, program director over investigations at the CPS Nueces County office, told the newspaper that when parents' religious beliefs conflict with medical recommendations, CPS will honor the religious beliefs if they are a "consistent" tradition within a known denomination.
"But when you have an individual interpreting, that's a different story," Rosetti said.
Does anyone else find the idea of the government determining if an individual's "interpretation" of his beliefs is "consistent" with that of a "known denomination" vaguely disturbing? If it's my religion, I should be able to interpret it however I want!

i was told that 2 "anointed" witnesses that had recently (on the night of the memorial) picketed in front of the kingdom hall were sent registered letters inviting them to a judicial committee meeting.
the husband had told the elders when they first called last week that the elders should call off the meeting because his wife had once again had major tremors and had to be hospitalized due to being sent the letter.
and that the elders should realize that they would surely get legal action against them if anything happened to his wife.
Mary,
Even if you didn't win, the elders would still have to secure a lawyer for their defence and as we all know, lawyers fees are astronomical. Meaning that unless the elders were extremely wealthy, they could end up owing tens of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of dollars in legal fees.
As I pointed out though, the Society will be there with their posse of Bethel lawyers. It won't be the elder footing the bill. The last thing they need is someone to successfully sue either the elders or the org over a DFing. It would set far too dangerous a precedent.

Best thing to do would be to show up at the Inquisition hearing with a lawyer and a reporter or two. Make sure we all get copies of the pictures/videos.
Although I am curious, all this talk about "threatening" the elders with a lawsuit against them personally... is there a shred of evidence that this would be successful? My guess is that (unless the elder did something really stupid), A) the Society will go to bat for the elder, and B) the lawsuit will fail.

yesterday's news on apple's transition to intel processors, made me.
nostalgic over the heyday of alternative platforms.
for all my boasting about not really ever buying into either the jws .
AMIGA rocks!!!!!!
I was a die-hard Amiga fanatic for years, back when Mac's were still monochrome-only and PC's were stuck in DOS with its single-tasking, 640k-limited EGA graphics, The Amiga's were cranking out stereo sound, with awesome graphics and a lean mean pre-emptive multitasking OS that worked from the GUI or the command line. Of course the company behind the Amiga were truly and completely clueless, had no idea what to do with a machine that was clearly ahead of its time.
I still have my 1200, sitting in the closet, unused for years but never forgotten.
